What do you say to a new convert?

Quick post today.

I’m stripping away all of the extra garnish and fluff and I’m asking one basic question.

You have a brand new convert and have only one piece of advice to give him…what do you say? What is the most important counsel you could give to someone who has just met Jesus?

That’s not two questions, it’s the same one asked two ways.

I want your feedback, please let me hear from you, with Bible references if possible. Thanks.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled time waster.

I think if I could only give one piece of advice to a brand new convert it would be this – Learn and Discipline yourself to Be Faithful. I would exhort/encourage them to make this a priority in all areas of their “new” life. Faithful to church, faithful to read God’s Word, faithful to carefully listen and respond to the teachign and preaching of God’s Word, faithful to walk daily with God. I would also tell them as a new Christian they need to apply this God given principle to all areas of their life – faithful to their wife/husband/children, faithful on the job, There are a lot of things Christian are suppose to do, but I find only one thing in the Bible that is “required.” I Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Bro. Kirk, you are exactly right about faithfulness. It is a key attribute in the Christian life.

Read, study, meditate on the whole book of 1 John every day for a month.

Bro. Talley, I’ve never thought about that before. That is not a bad idea since it is a small book but contains a wealth and variety of help.

Get to know God. Read your Bible, go to church. Work on developing that relationship.
