Best of…July

It’s been a few months since we’ve done a collection of “best of” links here on the blog. So, go with us on a trip down memory lane.

For those of you who don’t know, Nina started her blog, Portugal Bound, waaayyy back in 2007. It has gone through stops and starts and several iterations.

With that said, when you don’t have anything to blog about, with 5 years worth of material, you can always do a “Best of” and show embarrassing pictures so that others can laugh about your deputation weight and general ignorance over the years.

So, like a really popular talk radio host would do when he wants to take a week off, we invite you to join us for the next edition of “The Best of…” as we look all the way back to 2008 with the Best of…July!

Thank You Heather! – “Well, with the school year just around the corner and no good places to shop here in Portugal, I called on my “personal shopper,” Heather. Would you take a look at what she and her family sent to us!! We are so excited. Fashion shows have been going on all day.”

Ramblings – “Michael has held devotions in Portuguese twice and will be preaching in Portuguese for the first time at the end of August. His anticipation grows with each passing day, then is replaced with fear and apprehension. He does very well and is encouraged by the kind comments he gets from those present at the church services where we have had the privilege to attend the last few months.”

More Guest Blogger – “Faith peered into my tear-leaking eyes and said, “Daddy are you crying?” Of course, I did what most Dads in this position would do. I said, “You girls go take a break from school.” They immediately hopped up and went outside while I wept lamentations over my beloved home land.”

Society Has Dropped the Belt – “If saggy pants fall in public and there’s no common sense to pick them up, does society even notice? Moreover, if underwear were intended to be seen, wouldn’t we call it outerwear?”

Baptism at the River – “What a blessing! I couldn’t help but to cry as I watched each of the five candidates wade through the water….while songs of praise were sung from the river bank…in Portuguese!”

Opposites Attract – “Skaters and Jocks did not mix.”

Grocery Price Update – This one is two levels deep. Maybe I can get Nina to do a third follow-up.

Heat Waves, History and Homeschool – “Now, to her credit, she can correctly conjugate just about any Portuguese verb thrown at her and she fills me in on the history behind each of the 2,000 Portuguese holidays when I wonder why the stores are closed again for the third time in a week.”

Furlough Fun – “After three weeks Stateside, I’ve determined a few things…….Captain D’s is really greasy. Air conditioning makes me freeze.”
