The Best of…February

Nina started her blog, Portugal Bound, waaayyy back in 2007. It has gone through stops and starts and several iterations. With the increasing popularity and ease of Facebook along with the challenge of 5 kids in school, the ministry…etc, blogging has stopped being as much of a priority as it once was. However, together we fight the battle to keep you informed of our super-cool, minimally important goings-on.

With that said, when you don’t have anything to blog about, with 5 years worth of material, you can always do a “Best of” and show embarrassing pictures so that others can laugh about your deputation weight and general ignorance over the years.

So, like a really popular talk radio host would do when he wants to take a week off, we invite you to join us for the next edition of “The Best of…” as we look all the way back to 2008 with the Best of…February!

I know that it is March already, but you can blame February for only having 28 days. It’s not my fault, ok?

Maurizio, the Pizza Man – Well…he isn’t really Portuguese, he’s Italian. But he is a pizza maker in Portugal, so he is a Portuguese Pizza Man. Some of you remember Michael’s testimony of the conversation he had with Maurizio back in November of 2006. Well, Maurizio has people all across America praying for him and for his salvation.

How much does it cost? – Please take note, we had just arrived on the field and knew basically no Portuguese. We’ve learned a lot since then. Like, sour cream does exist but is called “fresh cheese.”

Just in case you’re wondering……

In American Dollars:
Plastic clothes hangers: $3.00 for 3
Sour Cream: It doesn’t exist…ughhh
Worcestershire sauce: $4.50 for small bottle…

Lemons, Baskets, Boosters and Crazy Americans – We have tons of lemons on a tree in the yard. We’ve made lemonade several times already. When God gives you lemons, make lemonade! Today we had church in our basement. Just us and Ms. Lora.

So…Why Portugal? You need to read this post if you never have. It is a classic. While pastoring a great group of folks in LaGrange, GA , Michael was doing his normal daily Bible reading when he came across the book of Jonah. He began reading in the first chapter where God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh. But Jonah purposed in his heart to go as far from the Lord as he could….

mama+fit2Mama Fit – Today after church, my terrible-two-year-old son went out the back door and played in the muddy yard while I got lunch ready. He came in sloshing water and mud all over the floors I mopped yesterday. Lovely…

I crack myself up – I read a post the other morning that used the word “facade”. I thought I understood the meaning and I thought it looked easy enough to pronounce so I tucked this little gem of a word away in my shallow little mind.

6 Down 58 to go – Boy, did you guys give me some questions or what?! I thought I may get one or two. Figured you guys were tired of pictures of cobble stone streets and hundred year old buildings, but apparently not!

DSCF4669I’m a Good Mom…Promise – So I was having such a good time playing with play-doh and talking with my two Brazilian friendsLetícia and Aline, I lost track of time.

Lunchtime Conversations – Daddy: “Trin, say ‘girl’….” Trin: “guhhl“ Faith: …giggling …”Trin, say ‘squirrel’…..” Trin: ….”guhhl“……

Yikes! – I’ve traded in my cigarette smoking Curves instructor, for this flesh eating trainer. Her voice alone intimidates me and when she looks into my eyes (ahem…camera) and tells me how hard the next 30 minutes with her are going to be, I’m ready to run back to bed crying.

DSC_0332A Joyful Time – Last week my husband had the privilege of baptizing a young Portuguese man named Pedro.  It was a joyous occasion and a happy reminder why we are here.    We borrowed another church building to have the service, as our church doesn’t have a baptistry.
